Duh … I Shot My Wife

Freddy[1].jpgOkay, so this guy in Texas calls 911 the other day to report that he put a cap in his bitchy wife.
“I shot my wife in the stomach with a .38,” he said in a soft and relaxed tone, as if he had called a friend to invite him over for dinner. Quite an amazing affect, actually.

The dispatcher asked the guy why he had shot his wife.

“She enticed me, and she would ridicule me throughout my lifetime.”

The operator then asked if his wife was still alive. “Hold on,” he said, “I’ll see …”

Fred Willhite, of North Richland Hills, Texas, a beat-up, old, brassy-looking guy neighbors referred to as the nutjob of the community, called 911 Monday night and told the operator his wife, Donna, was lying on the floor of their home with a .38-caliber slug in her stomach. Neighbor Curtis Simmons put Freddy boy’s life into context after the incident, telling a local TV station, “He was a nut, basically.”

As Freddy went to check on his dying wife, he could be heard in the background of the 911 tape talking to her patronizingly, asking her quite casually, “Are you alive or are you dead?” It was as if his tone implied, “Huh! I finally did it, woman!”

A moment later he returned to the phone, adding, “I think she’s dead.”

Worried Freddy was going to go on a rampage, the operator began sending several units to his home. Freddy sensed her trepidation. “I’m peaceable,” he said. “It’s OK.”

Freddy ended up surrendering peacefully when police arrived minutes later.

“He did exactly what he told the dispatcher he would do,” a police spokesman told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He didn’t have a weapon or anything like that.”
Freddy wife was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Makes you wonder if he will end up in prison or the nuthouse? Sad, very sad.

  2. Miss James Says:

Was he maybe a little retarded? This sounds like the 911 call in Slingblade.

“Yes, ma’am. I’ve killed Doyle Hargraves with a lawnmower blade. Yes, ma’am, I’m right sure of it. I hit him two good whacks in the head with it. That second one just plum near cut his head in two… It’s a lil’ ol’ white house on the corner of Vine Street and some other street. There’s a pick-up truck out front that says “Doyle Hargraves Construction” on it. Doyle said besides sending the police, you might wanna send an ambulance or a hearst. I’ll be sitting here, waiting on ye.”

I heard this on the radio last night. They were laughing about it because it was just so bizarre.

  4. Leah Says:

A crazy world we live in….wow. Texas certainly has it’s share. I wonder what kind of mental defect he’ll claim.

  5. Melissa Says:

He already claimed it. She was a nagging biatch.

She made fun of him his whole married life. Honestly though, these people that kill their spouses, dont they know that even though divorce is rough, its totally better than jail.

  6. Frankly Scarlett Says:

I saw this on the news yesterday, they played the 911 call. I was just shaking my head thinking….. god, what will people do next. How crazy is that “well woman, ya alive or dead?”. If it wasn’t so sick I’d probably be laughing. This guy is definately rowing with one oar.

  7. KimPossible Says:

Miss James, you never cease to crack me up.

  8. TXMichelle Says:

It is comical in a black humor way. It seems as though his anger was directed only at her. He didn’t go shooting up the police or taking neighbors as hostages. It is sad, she is dead and he will be incarcerated.

  9. LCarter Says:

Makes you wonder, will he plead insanity and get off easier?

  10. KDuba Says:

Bizarre and sad at the same time.

  11. azalea Says:

Miss James, you made me lol in my pants.
    Mmmm hmmm.

  12. Bill Cameron Says:

Of course, “He was a nut, basically,” lacks a certain diagnostic rigor. Maybe he’s crazy as a bedbug, but maybe his wife was mean as a snake and he cracked after years of this-n-that.

Not to say I approve of killing as a means of resolving relationship woes, mind you.

  13. TXMichelle Says:

OMG Bill “lacks a certain diagnostic rigor” too funny! I happen to think she was mean as a snake. As bad as it is I can’t help but laugh at the ‘are you alive or dead?’

  14. Miss James Says:

Here is a link to the call:

He’s drunk as a skunk, crazy as a loon, and he’s got more balls than a big brass monkey.

  15. Melissa Says:

    8232??

    Thats it babe.

Hey ya alive, or are ya dead? Ok, I think she’s dead.

Man, I feel evil for thinking this is kinda funny. Tragic, but funny.

  16. Einsteins_Mom Says:

I bet they had some interesting arguments before he whacked her. It was probably a tie as to who killed who first. Unfortunately, he won.

  17. KimPossible Says:

I tell ya what, I thought it was funny til I heard the tape. It sounded way too much like someone I know, who gets schnockered every day around 4 p.m. and passes out around midnight. I’m thinking I’m really glad his wife left him not long ago, because this totally could have been her fate. The bad thing is, no matter what you say to this guy when he’s drunk, depending on his mood, he gets pretty ugly, and starts arguments out of nothing. Wouldn’t doubt for one minute that’s how this went down.

  18. Melissa Says:

Kim, more than likely she was just the same way. Otherwise why would she have stayed.

  19. KimPossible Says:

    Melissa,

I’m not so sure… the man I’m talking about is a very close relative. His second wife was with him for almost 30 years. She never picked up a drink, and just let him control her when he drank. When he’s sober, he’s awesome, a wonderful person to know. When he’s drunk, very different story. She finally had enough of the drunk side, and left him. It took her almost 30 years.

  20. Shelley Says:

Why does it take somw women 30 year to get tired of being abused??

  21. Nik Says:

I used to ask that same question Shelley and it has nothing to do with “getting tired of being abused” and everything to do with being afraid. Most women are afraid of what will happen if they leave. Whether it’s being afraid of the unknown or being afraid of the abuser.

Most women that have been in an abusive relationship for a long period of time have no self worth left. The abuser has successfully treated the woman in such a way that they have no self confidence at all. That is what an abuser does best.

In this case though, the abuser could very well have been the wife. There are many documented cases of the female being the abuser. She could have even turned “ugly” in just the past few years because she was unhappy with her life. We don’t know all the details, so who knows?

  22. Missy Says:

As a friend of the family for over 20 years, let me say she was not a nagging bitch. He was a ranting drunk, that’s why he was so calm on the tape as usual he was just drunk. The family is devastated by this tragedy I hope the media moves on to something else soon. And yes you should feel evil for thinking this is funny, her four grandkids don’t find it funny at all.

  23. JrZyChris Says:

    Dear Missy,

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I don’t think my fellow crimerant.com posters meant any harm except that you hear a story every so often that is so bizarre, you can’t really connect it to real people. Of course, there are real people involved, but the media presents it to us who are so far removed as a comical thing. I’m sure you’ve seen the yearly ‘Darwin’ awards – whether they are true or not, we all chuckle. Meanwhile, if they are true, here we are laughing.

I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. Best wishes to you and her loved ones.

  24. Michael Says:

Poor guy. who knows the amount of abuse this man dealt with on a dailey basis before he finally snapped.

  25. Jason Says:

There is no mental illness here. He just got tired of hearing her mouth for so many years. Trust me, I can sympothize.
