Tuesday Morning Odds (as in Karr) and Ends (as in Duncan)

Duncan Don’t It (Make You Sick)

Details of admitted murderer Joseph Edward Duncan’s plea bargain agreement were released late yesterday. CR tJoseph Dun[2].jpghought you might want to take peek:

-Unconditional guilty pleas to three counts of first degree murder and three counts of first-degree kidnapping, which cannot be withdrawn. He will be sentenced to life without parole for the kidnappings, and cannot appeal.

-If the government fails to win the death penalty against Duncan in his federal court trial, he will be returned immediately to Kootenai County to face a death sentencing jury on the murder confessions. If he receives the federal death penalty, he will remain in federal custody until his execution.

-Duncan will provide the password or keys to his encrypted computer files to his federal public defender. The files are thought to contain details of his crimes.

-Family members of his victims can testify at sentencing proceedings without being cross-examined by defense.

-Video and audio tapes of law enforcement interviews with victim Shasta Groene, 9, may be used in the death penalty sentencing in Kootenai County if that becomes necessary.

-The agreement in no way binds the U.S. Department of Justice in its prosecution of Duncan, and any statement he makes in state cases can be used against him in any court.

Wonder when JED will be on Larry or the Today Show?

King and Queen

JBR’s last insult, John Mark Karr, made his much ballyhooed appearance on CNN’s Larry King Show (such a spectacle that eveCrimeRant-Carr.gifn Huff’s Karr-free site had to weigh in). Matt had this to say in an email to Gregg:

Karr on Larry King Live last night was one of the funnier moments in tabloid television history I have EVER seen. At the end, shaking his hand, Larry said, “Good luck to you, John.”

JMK is not talking now, he says, at the behest of his lawyers. He will open up more, though, he told Larry, in a book he’s working on.

Am I missing something here? What the hell is going on? It is incredible to me that about six weeks ago this guy was in jail facing some serious time, and then was shipped to Cali to face even more time, but ends up on Larry King spouting off as if HE is the victim. Can we not allow this scumbag any more air time! This is the lowest form of exploitation I have yet to see. I’m disgusted.

If you saw the show, we’d love to hear your observations.

My attorneys have requested that I not answer any questions regarding anything that you could possibly ask. Therefore, I cannot give my opinion of the LK interview with JMK from last night because it may lead you to ask me a question regarding a subject and I just can’t talk about it.

  2. Terri Says:

I guess there is some entertainment value in crazy people.

  3. moonsong Says:

This guy was so smug and so creepy–I had to switch channels–then I saw him and his attorney on Greta and even the attorney wondered why ABC would drive JMK to a Catholic school for girls. The Greta interview was even more disturbing than Larry’s. There is something really rotten about this guy. This won’t be the last we hear of him either and we all know that-I just wonder how many children will be destroyed before we can really throw the key away on this weirdo. And no–I won’t be buying his book or watching his movie–Nobody should.

  4. cj lyons Says:

It’s great that a lot of us won’t continue to feed Karr and the media’s insatiable appetite by buying his books or watching his interviews, but think of how many people will.

Which is exactly what the TV networks and whichever publisher buys his book (my guess would be Regan Books, given their track record with “celebrity” blockbusters) are counting on. All the way to the bank….

What people are missing is that this attention feeds Karr’s twisted self-image and fuels his obsessions further. These guys (as Matt and Gregg have explained so many times) are NOT normal–they don’t think of you and I as humans, rather as objects for their gratification. The same for the children they prey on.

Given that the legal system can’t punish Karr (yet!) the best punishment for someone like him? Effectively hog-tie him from pursuing his twisted fantasies–instead of giving him air time and letting him talk, muzzle him, plaster his face (not his words) everywhere, excommunicate him.

Only problem is that even as we cast Karr out of mainstream society, he’ll be welcomed with open arms into the subculture of pedophiles.

Wish I had an answer (other than vigilante justice) for that one. Sigh…

  5. Jeanne from NC Says:

I saw the doctor show today. A lot of what was shown isn’t admissible is it? He had a little of him interviewing JMK with his knowledge, but a heck of a lot more interviewing with hidden cameras in another area where he felt more relaxed and not on camera… or so he thought. Sick man no matter what.

  6. Lauren Says:

Not trying to be a smarty-pants, but is JMK really that interesting anymore? Yes, he is a delusional freak…., but that is about the jist of it (and of course he is a dangerous pedophile). Is there any new shocker? It reminds me of when comedian Andrew Dice Clay came out – he was totally shocking at first and quite popular; after a short time, the shock wore off and his act was empty of anything mildly interesting – he basically fell of the edge of the earth….. of course TomKat Cruise is insanely boring, but they keep haunting the news too.

  7. Kimpossible Says:

Exactly Lauren! Then tonight, I’m watching Nancy Grace, and Michael Jackson is back in the news. I guess he tried to pay his children’s mom off with 7.5 million to have full custody of the kids. Come on – unless they have footage of him dead from bulletholes, leave me the F alone. I’m sick and tired of hearing about these pervs, and the fact that Karr is making money off this sh*t??? Come on now. Need to go hurl (excusing myself to the nearest trashcan)…

  8. Lilo Says:

Didn’t watch it. Er, any of them. I figure that at some point of time his freaky face will appear in the news again- only this time the charges will be real- and I’ll get enough of seeing him then.

  9. Steve Huff Says:

Yep. I broke my NKZ rule, it is true. I checked though, and as long as he uses that Kroger down by the perimeter as opposed to the one I use up here near Northridge, I’ll be okay with that.

There’s still something about the man that makes me want to slap him and take his skateboard. Is that bad?

  10. Kimpossible Says:

Steve – pretty sure it’s a scooter with tassels.

I’m with you cj Lyons…I didn’t watch either one [LKL or Ablow], because somehow I just couldn’t force myself to sit through more lies and give this Pedophile what HE wants, which is ATTENTION.

Sure he’s weird, and freakish and people are curious about what makes him tick and will continue to watch whatever station plasters his ugly PeeWee Herman face, but I got news for them–

NOTHING WILL CHANGE by watching any and every show JMK is on and the excuse that one is trying to “learn” by studing his every word, is absurd in itself…

The freak LIES, so whats to study or learn?!

All watching him will do, is feed the demons that drive him.

I for one say ENOUGH already. GEESH!

    Forgot the OTHER Freak…Duncan.

I say save us taxpayers the time and money and let him say hello to my friend S&W…I know a gal who’s a pretty good shot and will be glad to do us the favor.

PS: The computer “joke” is a lame copout–any geek who’s worth a grain of salt knows how to hack into a computer and retrieve passwords and files hidden…so Fools Please.

  13. Fiona Orr Says:

My 19 year old daughter is a good hacker! But she hates true crime and thinks I’m out to kill her and her sister! (no, she 19 now and despite having ADHD and driven me screaming up the wall for large parts of her life, I think she can stay!) Fiz. xxx

  14. SabraUltra Says:

Karr is a fortunate fellow. His stare is as someone who has recovered from a psychosis.

It is good He can earn money and not do bad deeds.

  15. Pati Says:

JMK will be a serial killer in the next five years. He has enacted his fantasy on the public via this whole ordeal of duping Colorado and California to bail him out of a Thailand jail and then just walking away from it. He is completely narcissistic and is probably suffering from several personality disorders. He has a taste of infamy and when he does kill, and he will, it will be very young girls and he will not want to leave witnesses.

    HUh!!!??? You just LOST me…sigh.

As for the computer hacking–heard on the news late last night that the FBI was claiming that it wasn’t hard to crack the computer per sey but rather the PROGRAM that encrypted the files and created the passwords.

THAT is what they are having trouble “cracking”.

Ahhh “Brain-Fart Ahead” sign–try contacting the PROGRAM-creator, I mean they ARE the FBI right…and have him/them/whoever tell you HOW to break it!

GEESH!…do we have to do ALL their “thinking” for them?!
