Crime Rant Says Goodbye
Sometimes, when you reach a pinnacle, or cross a threshold, you need to take a step back, look closely at what you’re doing, and decide how much farther you want to take it.
Crime Rant has just celebrated its 2 millionth unique visitor and its 34,000th comment.
What we’re undecided about at the time is where to take Crime Rant next—if anywhere.
Here’s what we’re thinking:
“The Internet is such a volatile place, unstable, unreliable, and, well, at times, pretty damn creepy,” Matt says. “It’s steeped in the unknown. For me, Crime Rant has been a place where I know true-crime fans can come and get not only entertaining content, but news in a way that no one else can deliver with such gusto, integrity, and honesty. The problem is, where do you draw the line? There are so many Web sites and news sites and places to go for crime, how do you stand out? A Web site is nothing more than a billboard. How do you get beyond that and make it worth your time?”
“Besides working with Matt,” Gregg says, “the very best part of this experience has been getting to know our regular readers – too many to list here, but you know who you are. You’re smart, funny, and, yup, some of you are on the edge. And we love that. The bottom line for me, that as a book author, I’ve never been sure running a blog matters much to the success of my career. Is the drama worth it? Is the time spent posting, checking comments, responding, helping me to sell my books? Our stats tell me it does a little. But really, there are probably things I could do that advance my professional goals better than blogging on Crime Rant.”
So Crime Rant is saying goodbye.
Sure, Gregg and Matt will be thinking where CR will ultimately go: in the electronic junkyard forever, or back up, with a fresh new look, new faces, and its top crime presence on the Internet back where it belongs.
No promises though. Sometimes vacations away from home clear your head and send you in new directions.
Thank you, Crime Rant Nation, for everything you’ve done to make this such a fun place. Rant on.

It is very sad to see this site go. I may not always post, but I have been reading this blog for what seems like forever. I will miss having it in my internet routine. All the best to both of you, Gregg and Matt. Thank you for giving us this place for as long as you have. I will keep on the lookout for your future books.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:17 am
awwwww
I’ve always wondered how you guys found the time to blog. Both of you are always busy, running around the country side, researching & authoring. It’s sad to see your “goodbye”… but it’s also understandable.
Besides, we’ll still have your books and we’ll be seeing your guest blogs around the web elsewhere, right?
July 9th, 2008 at 8:17 am
I am sad as well. My Internet home it seems like for too long.
Thank you very much for giving us this space and for giving us a piece of yourselves.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:49 am
This is terrible news
, but as others have said-understandable. I wish you guys the best of everything and continued success with your books!
Wow, I feel like I just woke up from a bad dream!
July 9th, 2008 at 8:59 am
I’m sad.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:02 am
I hope that after your sabatical, you will decide to re-open CrimeRant. I wish both of you continued success and I know there will be many more excellent books to come.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:29 am
I am extremely sad as well. This place will be missed! *sighs*
July 9th, 2008 at 10:00 am
I’m very sad to see this place go, but I completely UNDERSTAND what you’re saying. This was the 1st crime site I’ve ever been to and I have came on here most faithfully every day since. I will miss CrimeRant more than you know!
Thank you for all the wonderful posts and will continue to read both you’re books in the future!
July 9th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Crimerant will be missed. Thanks for the time you gave and best wishes to you both in all your future endeavors.
July 9th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I echo Kimy N’s statement, as this is the first crime site I had ever come upon. It has provided me with news, entertainment, and steered me toward excellent true crime books.
But, I also understand your dilemma. We can always hope that it is feasible for you to return some day. Thank you both for your time, effort, and many enjoyable hours I have spent on this site. Take care…
July 9th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Thank you for all your great aticles. I really enjoyed reading Crimerant and will miss it. Wishing you all the best, you guys are great! Thanks again.
July 9th, 2008 at 10:32 am
What about Doug? I always enjoyed reading his sacastic take on things. I always felt that’s what his last name should’ve been anyway. It kinda sounds like and is spelled like the word sarcasm. To me anyway. Hope you guys only decide to take a vacation and not leave for good. We will miss you.
July 9th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Oh, man.
I am very sad about this but I do understand what you guys need to do.
Thanks for all the time you spent here with us and for giving us a chance to speak our minds. You guys have always rocked and I wish you nothing but the best.
I think I’m actually going to cry…
July 9th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Oh no, guys, I’m really going to miss you – I visit this site a couple of time a day. It’s been nice knowing you.
July 9th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
This is a bummer.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Sad.
This site was the very best. Always interesting, and so much fun.
I’ll miss you all.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Definately a bummer.
Understandable though.
You will both be missed and I wish you the best of luck in your futures.
July 9th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Bummer. I’ll miss this place. Good luck, guys!!
July 9th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I’m sad too!
July 9th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Will miss ya!
July 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
You can check out any time you like…
But you can never leave.
You’ll be back.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Of all the sites that are on the Internet, this one has been the one with class and integrity. Very disheartening to see you go but under the circumstances, it is understandable.
To my CR Nation friends, it has been an honor and a priviledge to exchange ideas, thoughts and blogs.
And to our CR Guys, all the best to you both and all the luck for continued success on your careers and lives. See ya around!
July 9th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Well. This is very sad to me. But I understand.
I would like to say “thank you” Matt and Gregg for a wonderful site. You made us think, and you made it fun. I will continue to buy and read EVERY ONE of your books, and I really hope that one day I’ll be lucky enough to meet one or both of you, and have you sign a book for me. Until then….. take good care, and keep up the wonderful writing. You guys are a blast.
And remember:
“At the end of the storm is a golden sky……”
July 9th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
When the hell was anybody going to tell me about this?
Really. I just read that post a minute ago. Well it’s been fun, and thank you to everyone who read my posts and/or replied. It was always really rewarding to see what people thought of what I said, especially when they called me an idiot. Tah tah.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I was wonder about the D the Intern as well. Maybe you are going to have to start another blog!
July 9th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
R U Back yet?
darn!
July 9th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
I’ll miss crime rant, too. You guys really rock! I’ll echo what Rayvyn Mist said: your site is the only crime site with class and integrity. Like everyone else, I understand that you guys are busy with other things and cant always keep up with this place. I hope to see you pop up again somewhere else.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Wow. Go on vacation, and look what happens?? Bummer guys, I really liked the site. BTW, I read two of Matt’s books last week. One I read in less than 24 hours. I love reading on the boat!
July 9th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Why not let Doug do the posts while you guys decide on the sabbatical? He is an INTERN lol
I don’t want to see you go!!
July 10th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Great idea, Melissa!
July 10th, 2008 at 3:52 am
Thanks for all the effort you guys put into this site while it was going! I, and obviously countless others, will miss this blog terribly. We appreciate having had a place to look at the strange world of crime from a sometimes sober but often-times humorous projection.
) Doug to do the posts for a time. I know, we’re searching for the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s pathetic, etc. but you guys are truly awesome and most of us wont know what to do when we turn on our computers now. Cheers and good luck!
It seems like Melissa has a good idea there, maybe you could allow (a.k.a. force
July 10th, 2008 at 3:59 am
i will miiss crime rant very much as i live in the uk and i like to keep up with whats happening is the usa crime scene.the only good thing out of this is that we can still get the very goods books that you both right.wishing you two all the best in the furture.
July 10th, 2008 at 4:25 am
Doug — always loved you post. Best of luck to you and thanks for all the clever articles.
July 10th, 2008 at 6:06 am
LOL Doug, didn’t mean to leave you out. Just keep that great sense of humor and you’ll go far!!
July 10th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Now hold on, wait just a minute…don’t we get to vote on this??
Okay seriously guys, I’ll miss this site. Best of luck to you, please keep writing books.
GJ
July 10th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Oh NOES!
July 10th, 2008 at 8:28 am
It’s sad but understandable. Wish you both (and Doug) the best of luck.
July 10th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Sure, just as a bunch of really good stories break you guys decide to take one. I agree… let doug have some fun or one of us for a while to give you guys a break?
July 10th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Doug the Intern would be a great Interim Intern…that IS an excellent idea, Melissa! Because we would all certainly miss you too, Doug! You could hold down the fort for the guys in case(UNTIL???) they return…
July 10th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Ha! Try and back away from the Kook-Aid… Good luck with that!
And Doug, In Cold Blog would be happy to pick up a second hand intern in you want to keep on blogging. You can get my email addy from Gregg.
July 10th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Trying for a second time … didn’t even try to understand the goobly gook about SQL server …
___________
Wish I’d known about this site sooner, but I’ve lead a very sheltered life.
Best of luck to you, but question: What could possibly top the last month here?
July 10th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I’d just discovered Crimerant and now you’re closing your doors. Sorry to see it go.
July 10th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I agree with Melissa and the others and vote for Doug to take the wheel for a while. That would be awesome!
July 10th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Yeah, c’mon Doug…pleeeeeeease?!? !)
July 10th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Aye, Aye…Doug Doug Doug
July 10th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
That’s a great idea about Doug taking over for a while to keep CrimeRant going. I hate to see it go!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:39 am
why doesn’t Doug take the wheel from the guys for the summer at least. I been a cr visitor from earlier this year an its the best site on the net for crime. I checked that other site in cold blog, and doug doesn’t belong over there, that site is a dog. doug’s too trendy and funny for that.
come on, let’s start a campaign for doug to take over. all with me sign belowwww!!!!!!!
July 11th, 2008 at 4:12 am
I think it would be a great idea to have Doug run CR. I know he’s become a big part of the CR family. And goodness, can he make me laugh.
I can also think of a few posters here that would be excellent in writing something every now and then.
As strange as it may seem, CR has brought people together that may have never had a chance to meet. There are people on here that I truly consider my friends. It’s really more than a “crime site”. Matt and Gregg have always interacted with us from day one. This has been more than just a place to read news, it’s been a place to learn and discuss as well.
Well, whatever happens, rock on Gregg and Matt!
July 11th, 2008 at 9:10 am
CrazyEyes, you’re rather rude. I bet you’re one of those nasty old bags from the Women In Crime Ink blog, or one of their brain dead sycophants, who feel justified in following me around the Net with their cyber-harassing bullshit.
ICB isn’t a DOG, it’s one of the best and most respected crime sites on the Net. If the site was such a dog Reuters and the Chicago Sun Times wouldn’t be syndicating any of our posts and people like Erin Moriarty from CBS 48-Hours certainly wouldn’t be there. The fact that our posts are being syndicated is a sign of true blogging success in the online TC world, and every crime blogger out there knows it! Not even Steve Huff has gotten his posts syndicated in Reuters or the Chicago Sun Times (and affiliates). The only other true crime blog that has accomplished this is Crime Rant.
Keep talking out your ass, CrazyEyes, I’m sure every single one of ICB’s contributors appreciates your disrespectful dis, including Gregg and Matt, who have not only been contributors at ICB but who are our very good friends.
Frankly, after reading the comments on this post if I was Gregg and Matt there would be no way I would ever reopen Crime Rant. It’s more than obvious your desire to have CR continue is NOT about Gregg and Matt at all. You don’t care who writes the blog, you’re only desire to keep CR going is about all of you wanting to have a place to congregate and chat each other up. It’s not about Gregg and Matt at all, that is obvious! I doubt you really even want Doug, I think all anyone wants is just a forum. A rather discourteous send off for these two men, I think.
I’m about ready to follow Gregg and Matt. I’m sick of the Net and the people on it. I’m tired of how people hide behind their computer and behave in a manner that they would never be so bold to do in real life. I think the Net is becoming the downfall of our society and has done more to contribute to mass ignorance than any other medium that has ever been in existence.
July 11th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Michelle–I hope your view point of the net (contributing to the downfall of our society, mass ignorance, etc) is one of the reasons that you’ll stay, as a positive force. It’s also the reason that I’m sad that this site is closing shop. If the climate of the net is causing the good guys to pull out, then we’re all screwed, for sure.
“Good guys” is an understatement, btw. In that I mean the truly talented, insightful, hilariously funny, full of heart, guts and integrity.
And I really agree with you about this site being about Matt and Gregg. Imo, no one else should ever carry this, and I don’t think they could. It would change everything entirely, and then it wouldn’t be Crimerant.
Perhaps there’s interest in dougtheintern.com as it’s own thing?
Lol, I was wondering of we could all walk away without one more controversy…not.
July 11th, 2008 at 10:54 am
wow. I think Doug would be a good idea for the time being. I love this place for the topics that are chosen by Matt, Gregg, and Doug. I don’t come here for it as a forum. It has been a great place to find out others opinions on many different things we wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere like the Little Boy Blue killer etc. I didn’t read anywhere else about the fact that Gregg had helped in getting DNA sent to Colorado and the case was still going etc.
Not all of us come here to sit around and attack people. Please do not make a blanketed statement like that because it isn’t true for all of us.
July 11th, 2008 at 11:25 am
It’s possible that the paranoid ravings of some posters are why sites like this are shut down. If people can’t express their opinions without being personally attacked, then what’s the point? Just because some are good with words doesn’t give them the right to use them as weapons.
July 11th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I am sad to see you go. I don’t post often, but love to visit and read everyone’s thought. We do have your books to look forward to, but we will miss you guys.
July 11th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I knew it was coming….NOT happy at all! There are so many sites that can go..sorry to see THIS one go!! Take care Greg and Matt!! Come back if you can!!!!!!!
July 11th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Ohmygosh, I can hardly believe this! You guys have meant so much to me and so many others. I don’t think there are any other blogs quite like this one which is why I loved it so much.
July 11th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
I was going to suggest that Gregg and Matt open author pages at Red Room.com but I see that Gregg already has one. Matt, ya need one of these! I am currently working with an author on updating her page there.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for your nice comments about the site. I put in a call to Doug the Intern to see if he’d like to carry on for the summer. Let’s see what he says. It is kind of like a dad handing over his car keys, but I think the kid can do it. If he wants to, of course.
Gregg
July 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Excellent!! Between the lot of you it is always good reading.
July 11th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Yesssssssssss!
July 11th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I hope that Gregg and Matt realize that all of our positive comments about the site and our desperation to hear that they are leaving IS because of THEM and not just because this is a place to congregate. (Speaking for myself, but assuming that most others will agree…)And since we have been used to Doug’s posts and humor, it seems natural that we would hope that he might want to keep it going. None of us suggested that just anyone take over…and I for one am holding onto the hope that the site will be “back up, with a fresh new look, new faces, and its top crime presence on the Internet back where it belongs” as stated in their post.
Much of the draw for me has also been the intelligence and wit of many of the regular posters on this site. I think that is a compliment to Gregg and Matt as well, because they have attracted this type following. They were also wise enough to choose a very talented intern in Doug.
JMHO
July 11th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Great post Michelle Gray. So many good points made. I myself, have been wondering lately, just how much more of the Internet I am willing to take.
Even if I did meet my soul mate… husband… on the Net, 9 years ago.
So much good…. and so much bad. It’s hard to sort it all out.
I just know that I really loved this site, and will miss it terribly. I’m not so sure I’ll go looking for another true crime site.
I think I’ll just keep reading the books, and watching the crime TV channels.
I might change my mind… but for now… I need a grieving period!!!!!
Ok.. this is my last official post on Crime Rant. Matt and Gregg… all the best forever…..
You are both truly unique, wonderful, talented, and… I think I’ll go have a good cry now!!!!
Always, Scarlett
July 11th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
This was my favorite true-crime website, I enjoyed checking it several times a day to learn about a case I was unfamiliar with and to laugh at the wittiness of both Matt and Gregg (and more recently, Doug the intern).
I couldn’t believe it when I won the marketing contest for Matt’s book late last year, and I read both books I received as the prize within hours (and have since sought out more!).
Thanks for everything guys, it’s been one hell of a ride. I hope you check in on occasion and let us know what you’re both up to!
July 11th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
WAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
I haven’t participated much lately but I still check in to read.
Contributors, you’re great! I feel that I’ve come to know several of you. E’s Mom – I so agree with the things you say. Scarlett – you crack me up. Oh, and so many others!!!
Doug, you’re an idiot. NOT REALLY!! You just said that you like it when people write that.
Matt, this site has introduced me to you. I’ve read all your books except the latest – and I plan to pick it up this weekend. The books are great and I will follow your writing!
Gregg, of course I’ve read all your books and look forward to future works of fact and fiction. I know we’ll be in touch. I love you man!! Come see me. If you don’t – you never know where I’ll show up!!
After all that, it looks like the site might be around in some incarnation. I sure hope so.
Whatever happens, this site has been the greatest.
Love you all.
July 12th, 2008 at 3:26 am
You are all very kind. Gregg and I appreciate your warmth. This site has been important to us and it’s hard to consider walking away. I think if Doug can get us through the summer, we MIGHT feel compelled to come back this fall, BIGGER and BETTER.
Who knows.
July 12th, 2008 at 5:35 am
Ok, what is taking Doug so long to answer???
Sounds promising guys
I love your idea and hope it can work out!
July 12th, 2008 at 6:14 am
Excellent guys. I don’t know if I can go the whole rest of the summer though without something from Matt and Gregg. LOL.
July 12th, 2008 at 9:45 am
I second that KDuba!
July 12th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I hope there is a way to keep this site. I do not post here as much but I do like to come here and read the blogs.
We do not have such great sites about crime where I live (Europe). We do have the crime though
Thanks for this blog!
Marlene
July 12th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Hey Doug..what will it take to get you to keep up with the blog? (wink wink…nudge nudge)
Just kidding of course, but I will truly miss this blog if it disappears. Whatever will be will be.
July 13th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Geez Michelle, totally uncalled for comment. When I read stuff like this that you’ve written, it’s all just so negative and makes me feel ill. Seriously, why in the H do you bother with people that you think are bothering with you? Isn’t it best just to walk away? Come on now.
I like the idea of Doug taking over for the summer: Guys, you cannot stop this site. You just can’t. You can, however, change the software you use, to software that requires the user to log in, and that you can very easily zap comments as they come in if need be. We use Joomla, very good software actually. Seriously, you can’t stop this site – bad move IMO. Thanks
July 13th, 2008 at 8:25 am
If Doug does take over for the summer, maybe Gregg and Matt can be guest bloggers…
July 13th, 2008 at 9:28 am
Has anyone other than Melissa, Corey Mitchell and myself had anyone try to hack into their account for Crime Library / Tru TV message boards? Is it happening to everyone or are we special?
July 13th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Nope, I received an email yesterday from CrimeLibrary telling me that someone with an ip address from Israel (I looked it up) tried to post under my handle there.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Michelle, I agree with Kim Possible. When someone says something you don’t like you don’t respectfully disagree, you seek to destroy them with nastiness. You are a great writer, but sometimes it doesn’t come through when you’re feeling threatened. Seeking to destroy people through words is just negative, and it makes me feel ill when I read it. And to Gregg and Matt, love the blog, love your books, thanks for everything! You guys are a class act.
Tricia
July 13th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I still think that it looks like it doesn’t matter who writes at CR, as long as the forum is available. It’s my opinion, and from where I sit the whole discussion about it looked hurtful. Looked to me like no one really cared about Matt or Gregg, just about the forum. I like Doug, but he’s no Gregg or Matt and any substitution doesn’t do CR justice.
July 13th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I disagree Michelle.
Matt and Gregg are the forum, but so are the people that post.
Doug does not write like Matt or Gregg, if he did then it would not be as interesting to read his posts.
I have gone to many other sites that I don’t find interesting at all. Either they are not written well or they have people who post that don’t interest me.
When people say they would miss the site they mean they would miss Gregg, Matt, and Doug. As well as the people who post regularly and have different insight.
At least that is how I see it. If I am speaking out of turn for anyone, well then, I apologize.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
We ALL love Gregg and Matt. I personally dont want to see them go which is why I suggested a sabbaitical. They have lots of work going on, and we understand that.
Doug makes funny posts about idiocy crime (no he isnt an idiot), but even he brings on serious discussion.
I meant no disrespect when I said that Doug take over while they take care of what they need to. And if they are just totally disgusted, then I would understand that as well.
But they really did, bring discussions to a new level. Yes, sometimes it got bad, which is predictable when you are discussing things that are other than the cuteness of puppies.
July 13th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I have to chime in to say that it is a love for Matt, Gregg, and Doug because without them the forum wouldn’t exist.
I am starting to wonder given the post that Doug initially gave, if he’s really hurt with how he found out and may not even be checking back. I hope that isn’t the case.
July 13th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Good Luck Greg & Matt.
Thanks for everything.
July 13th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
I also received an email saying someone had tried to hack into my CrimeLibrary acct.
July 13th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
CAME BACK TO SAY ADIOS AMIGOS….IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED.
AS ALWAYS; BEST TO THE BOTH OF YOU IN CAREERS, FAMILY, HOME, SALES, WRITING, AND FUTURE ADVENTURES.
WITH MUCH LOVE, RESPECT AND HUGGS.
July 13th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
The guys have actually said if Doug could/would host CR through the interim time — they might return bigger and better. Big whoop! — I am hopeful.
Doug has a different style, and I assume that is exactly what Matt and Gregg wanted when they “interned” him. I love the idea Doug hosting us through the guys’ sabbatical. Doug is cool and always a fun read but this is a big job — might be more than he wants to take on alone.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Hey Doug/Gregg/Matt,
What if some of your readers sent Doug blogs they’ve written, he can choose to use them or edit them, or whatever he wants to do? Might be kind of cool. Just a thought.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Yea!!! Sounds good Doug???? We luv ya!!
July 15th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Somebody tried to hack into my CL account too, Michelle.
Goodbye, Gregg and Matt, this site will be missed by many.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Sorry to hear this. Would always read, hardly posted, but it was interesting while it lasted. Good Luck to the both of you.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I think the quote below pretty much says they won’t be back. It didn’t help them much with their book sales which I guess is what it was mostly about me. Too bad because I so enjoyed reading their take on crime.
“The bottom line for me, that as a book author, I’ve never been sure running a blog matters much to the success of my career. Is the drama worth it? Is the time spent posting, checking comments, responding, helping me to sell my books? Our stats tell me it does a little. But really, there are probably things I could do that advance my professional goals better than blogging on Crime Rant.”
I hope you two find what you’re looking for… something in TV or movies maybe? Good luck!
July 24th, 2008 at 6:03 am
Gregg and Matt,
I am sitting here reading “Murder in the Heartland”, and the only reason I ever bought the book is from hearing about it on here. My friend just bought Sleep in Heavenly Peace and as we read them we are calling and sharing notes, then when we are done we are going to go buy the others. I shared that just so you know that this site is what peeked our curiosity and we thank you for that! Your talent should be shared in as many places as possible. If not here, then that is our loss!
We have alot of fun talking about your site and your books. I dont post much because the verbal abuse from other posters got to be a bit much .
Some people could use a lesson in picking their battles. They think they are coming to your defense but they make themselves sound like bullies and I am sure that is not how you care to be defended. But I check in all the time and I have really appreciated your hard work and dedication to the site.
Whether you choose to return or not….hope you are blessed with a lifetime of Happiness!
Sincerely,
Michelle

Ok I just finished Murder in the Heartland and I rushed to the computer to share my thoughts with those (im sure few) of you that havent already read it. I really enjoyed this book!
What an in depth insight into the household of the Montgomery’s….and the family and friends that were affected by such an awful (and perhaps preventable) tragedy.
The book was written so well and flowed with such beautiful simplicity and yet I felt truly informed after reading it. After I read it I felt like I had been given the exclusive opportunity to peek into the windows (and the mind) of a woman that had so many levels of, I want to say “narcicism”, but I am not even sure if that word does her total self-absorbed personality justice. What a scarey example of what making a decision born out of desperation, (add to that a sick mind) can give birth to. No pun intended!
I know this isnt a book review section but I just wanted Mr.Phelps to know that I think he has an awesome talent for writing in a way that keeps the reader drawn in and captivated with every little gem you gather along the way . Every book is a journey and you feel in the end like you have been sitting right next to the Author during each Interview.
Fantastic. Looking forward to reading another.

As usual, work and life have kept me from my home PC and so this dated, yet VERY SAD news is baffling to me!
No more Crimerant? Say it ain’t so!
Matt and Greg and all the posters will be missed dearly!
I love the news and read it often, but I’ve gotten some of the best insight from you guys(gals) here on Crimerant.
Peace to all. And the best of luck!

I am sorry to see this end. I use this site to keep up with information on those crimes and perpetrators in other states that we read about. I hope Gregg you will keep your readers posted on the Eli Stuzman case should you find any more information.

Crime Rant will be missed! I’ve really become an avid mystery/thriller reader because of this site, and I’m so sad to see it go. I’m going to miss all the good crime book recommendations.
While I’m commenting, let me throw out a recommendation of my own. If you enjoy a good mystery, I suggest my most current read by Anthony Flacco: a fast-paced, suspense-filled thriller called “The Hidden Man: A Novel of Suspense” by Anthony Flacco. I first got hooked on his debut historical fiction book “The Last Nightingale,” and now I’m finishing up the companion to it “The Hidden Man.” I’m a really picky reader, but this guy is just amazing. I find that a lot of books in the mystery/thriller genre nowadays lack the key elements that make up a good read. For example, what happened to all the humor, edginess, and multi-dimensional characters?
“The Hidden Man” takes readers back to 1915 San Francisco reborn after the Great Earthquake and Fire. Particularly, I love the interesting, flawed characters that make the book shine like a jewel. James Duncan is a famed mesmerist at the pinnacle of his career in the upcoming World’s Fair, and he must work together with equally fascinating Detective Blackburn and Blackburn’s young protégé Shane Nightingale when a fanatic stalker sets out to destroy him. My favorite character is Vignette Nightingale though, who reminds me of a female version of Huckleberry Finn; she’s definitely a character you don’t see often in mystery books these days. I find it more interesting because they must solve a murder that hasn’t even happened yet, based purely on what only the terrified (almost obsessed) intended victim can see. If you like a compelling story and complex characters, this is a book for you. You can check out the reviews and book trailer on his website: AnthonyFlacco.com. Give it a try!
