Hard Knox: What did Amanda Say?

[CR Note: For a more current Crime Rant item on Foxy Knoxy go here.]

AmandaKnox.jpgHere in Seattle, everyone’s talking about former University of Washington honor student Amanda Knox, 20, and the throat slashing murder of Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British exchange student in Perugia, Italy.

Police questioned Knox late last week in connection with the attack that bloodied her apartment. Early Tuesday, after detectives interrogated her about inconsistencies in her account, she reportedly confessed to playing RaffaeleSollecito.jpga role in the slaying. Also under suspicion are Knox’s Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, 23, and Congolese musician Patrick Diya Lumumba, 37, who owned the local bar where Knox worked. All three have been arrested.

Kercher, was found dead the morning after attending a Halloween party. It appears she died trying to fend off a sexual attack.

MeredithKercher.jpgSays the local police:

“The motive appears sexual, but Meredith was morally innocent. She was the victim, not a participant.”

Here’s are the suspects’ versions of the events told to the Italian police (as reported by Fiorenza Sarzanini and translated by Giles Watson):

Knox says: “Patrick and Meredith were in Meredith’s bedroom while I must have stayed in the kitchen. I can’t remember how long they were together in the bedroom but the only thing I can say is that at a certain point I heard Meredith screaming. I was scared and put my hands over my ears. I can’t remember anything else. I’m so confused. I can’t remember if Meredith was screaming or if I heard any thuds because I was in shock but I could imagine what was going on”.

It was early yesterday morning when Amanda Knox, Meredith’s American friend and flatmate, revealed that she had been present at the murder. She broke down after police officers accused her of lying when she claimed to have left the flat at 5 pm on 1 November and come back the following morning, when Meredith’s brutally murdered body was found. Amanda’s boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, had been interviewed a few hours earlier. He admitted that the alibi was false while denying he had taken part in the crime. Amanda realised she had no way out but she claimed her role was marginal, accusing Patrick Lumumba Diya of being the murderer. Nevertheless, her story was confused and it was clear she was not telling the whole truth. It was enough for the public prosecutor, however, who signed warrants for the arrest of the two men.

Knox’s story begins at 5.45 am yesterday morning. “I want to tell you what happened because it’s left me really shocked and I’m terrified of Patrick, the African boy who owns the Le Chic pub where I work sometimes. I saw him on the evening of 1 November after I replied ‘see you’ to his text message. We met at about 9 pm on the basketball court in Piazza Grimana and went to my place. I can’t remember if Meredith was already there or if she turned up later. What I can say is that they went into the bedroom”. Amanda goes into detail and describes the assault. Then she adds, “I met Patrick this morning [5 November – Ed.] outside the University for Foreigners and he asked me questions. He wanted to know what questions the police had asked me. I think he also asked me if I wanted to speak to journalists, perhaps because he was trying to find out if I knew anything about Meredith’s death”.

Amanda then talks about her boyfriend: “I’m not sure if Raffaele was there that evening but I clearly remember waking up at his place, in his bed. I went back home in the morning and found the door open”. Officers from the flying squad and special operational centre (SCO) say that after making her statement, Amanda put her hands on her head and shook it several times. In the warrant, the public prosecutor writes: “The sexual intercourse involving Meredith and Patrick must be regarded as violent, given the particularly threatening context in which it took place, and to which Ms Knox must have contributed with Diya”.

The printouts of telephone calls examined by the post office police proved crucial to establishing the movements of those involved. They were also incompatible with earlier statements. The first to admit to talking “a whole lot of rubbish” was Raffaele Sollecito. He was questioned at the police station at 10.40 pm on 5 November, two days ago. He had already been interviewed after Meredith’s body was discovered but claimed he did not know what had happened. “I was out with Amanda”, he had said. Then he realised that the situation had changed and decided to change his version of events.

Raffaele Sollecito’s statement begins at 10.40 pm on Tuesday: “I’ve known Amanda for a fortnight. She’s been sleeping at my flat since the evening we met. On 1 November, I woke up at about 11 am. I had breakfast with Amanda and then she left. I went back to bed. I got to her place at 1 or 2 pm. Meredith was there but she left in a hurry about 4 pm without saying where she was going. Amanda and I went into town at 6 pm or so but I can’t remember what we did. We were in the town centre until 8.30 or 9 pm. At 9 pm, I went home on my own while Amanda said she was going to Le Chic because she wanted to see some friends. That’s when we said goodbye. I went home, smoked a joint and had dinner but I can’t remember what I ate. At about 11 pm, my dad called on the landline. I remember that Amanda hadn’t come back yet. I surfed the net for another two hours after dad called and only stopped when Amanda got back, at about 1 am, I suppose. I can’t remember what she was wearing or if she was wearing the same clothes she had on when she said goodbye before dinner. I can’t remember if we had sex that night. The following morning, we got up at about 10 am and she told me she wanted to go home, have a shower and change. She left at around 10.30 and I went back to sleep. When Amanda left, she took an empty carrier bag, saying she needed it for her dirty washing. She came back about 11.30 and I remember she had changed her clothes. She had her usual bag with her”.

According to Sollecito, this was when Amanda told him she was worried. “She told me that when she got home, she found the door wide open and blood stains in the small bathroom. She asked me whether I thought it was strange. I said I did and advised her to phone her friends. She told me she’d phoned Filomena [another woman living in the murder house – Ed.] and that Meredith wasn’t answering”.

The pair went back to the flat together. This is Raffaele Sollecito’s version of next few moments: “She unlocked the door and I went in. I noticed that Filomena’s door was open. There was glass on the floor and the room was a mess. Amanda’s door was open but the room was tidy. Then I went to Meredith’s door and saw it was locked. First, I checked to see if what Amanda had told me about the blood in the bathroom was true. I noticed there were drops of blood in the sink and there was something strange on the bathmat, a mixture of blood and water, while the rest of the bathroom was clean. Nothing else was out of place. Just then, Amanda went into the big bathroom and came out looking scared. She clung to me and said that when she was showering earlier, there had been stools in the lavatory bowl but now it was clean. I wondered what was going on and went out to see if I could climb up to Meredith’s window. I tried to force the door but I couldn’t open it. Then I decided to call my sister for advice because she’s a lieutenant in the carabinieri. She told me to call 112 but by this time the postal police had arrived. In my earlier statement, I told you a whole lot of rubbish because Amanda convinced me about her version and I didn’t think about the contradictions”.

    This whole case confuses me.

  2. bloo Says:

This whole crime is truly bizarre. I suspect that there’s still much to be heard from everyone involved. Was this a drunken orgy gone bad? Was any of this pre-planned? What is Patrick’s criminal history? Was Meredith murdered by Patrick only, while the other two were too stupid, too scared or too shit-faced to intervene?

More questions than answers at this point.

  3. Einstein's Mom Says:

    I’m very confused, too.

  4. Melissa Says:

There was no sexual assault according to ABC.

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3831234

Too many leaks in Italy, rumors are running amok. Not only that but apparently Amanda was questioned for hours and hours without representation.

She apparently knows SOMETHING, but I think she is scared. As she should be. The not remembering is probably because everyone involved was wasted.

  5. Emerson Says:

Lost in translation? Good lord I’m confused too. We’re definitely missing some large pieces of info. Obviously they are all involved in some way, maybe not with the murder itself, but they all have vital info. I think you guys are right about drugs being involved, I’d be interested to know what kind. If there’s no sexual assault then I’m really confused as to what the motive was. I don’t believe either of the men have criminal records so how exactly does one move into the attempted rape/murder category overnight? If it was an indiviual it may make more sense, but a group of three? Even with just two participants it seems really odd. It makes more sense to me to think that this girl did it all on her own for some other unknown reason. I dunno, it’ll be interesting see what comes out.

  6. bloo Says:

    Hi Emerson,
Even though Meredith wasn’t sexually asaulted, her murder might still have been sexually motivated. Maybe her attacker got violent when she wouldn’t put out. It could explain why she was found half naked.

  7. Robert M. Says:

Emerson & bloo, et al – there’s a well-toned review of this with links going over at Steve’s truecrime. Gregg has well presented here the “leaked” portions of the transcripts; there are of course translations issues re Amanda’s version both ways & so on. However, she has placed herself in the house when Meredith was murdered. Whether the physical evidence supports all aspects of the Italian police’s theory is of some matter.

Really, Greg, after your done with your next book, this one will have legs, given that friends see her as “a person of responsibility” and “someone I have trusted my life with” (re her climbing-as-sport pursuits), yet her hard-partying/boychasing/hash smoking two month roll through that old college town of Perugia is documented & partially be herself. And its in your neck of the woods!

As I put it elsewhere, how did two young women of talent & charm cross paths so disastrously?

  8. Melissa Says:

Robert, be sure to come back with anything relevant that is posted there. ie, nothing from eyes for lies, speculation etc.

I love Steve’s blogs, but the comment section has become an international National Inquirer. Ever since the open threads about Madeleine were allowed I cant read half of what people say. More like 95%, and I cant deal with sorting it through. Basically nothing that is posted there in the comment section is relevant. Fortunately Steve actually blogs when something does come up. So not dealing with the comments is easier.

  9. Emerson Says:

Robert- I’m partially with Melissa on this one. There are so many random people posting random drib and drab over at Steve’s on this one that I will not be reading the comments. I don’t quite get how many people (particularly with the McCann saga) have so much time on their hands. So, like M said, keep us posted if anything of interest materializes over there in the comments! ;)

bloo- Yeah, it’s hard to decipher what is truth and tabloid fiction here. It’s amazing how any story connected to the UK has all of this crazy, inside, bizarre, info come out in these papers. How much do they pay people?? I guess I’ll wait for the 48 Hrs Investigates show to air on this case to see what happened. lol

  10. Jackie Says:

“So not dealing with the comments is easier.”

You know, it is interesting….. After reading the comments to the Finnish school shooting thread I am beginning to feel like that about this site. And I am only half joking.

  11. annarocket Says:

I read what Steve has over there and I must say,Amanda is in a world of hurt. I find it very hard to believe that she doesn’t know more than she’s saying. According to Steve’s blog:
*Amanda gives conflicting stories about her boyfriend, and the other suspect,Patrick.
*It has mirror copies of her MySpace blog [FoxyKnoxy],which talks about how she met him and went to work for Patrick at his nightclub.
*There is a You Tube video of her drunk and goofing off, that’s not gonna look too skippy, ouch.
*On her myspace blog, she has posted some short stories, several briefly involve sexual violence and voyerism.
And she wants us to believe she doesn’t remember because she smoked too much pot?

Good luck Miss Amanda.I’m not buying a word of this.

  12. Melissa Says:

Oh I have no problem believing that she doesnt remember big parts of the night. Thats what blackouts are. It may or may not come back to her, in bits and drabs, but the one thing thats clear is that she was there. Not necessarily in the ROOM while it was happening.

  13. Melissa Says:

Jackie, sorting through 45 posts to find something relevant is not the same thing as trying to find something in 400+ posts.

  14. annarocket Says:

Melissa,I think she’s lying through her teeth about this whole sad mess.

  15. Jackie Says:

    @ Melissa

There may be 400 comments there, but most of what has been posted in comments to Steve’s blog so far has been relevant, not jingoistic and rude.

  16. Melissa Says:

lol, I had to look up jingoistic. And Jackie, shouldn’t this be posted on that thread since you are complaining about relevance to the topic?

Anna, I agree she isnt telling everything, but I take every confession that was taken over a 3 day period with no representation with a grain of salt. And I do believe that she doesnt remember everything. Have you ever had an entire day of drinking and smoking and remember everything that happened?

  17. Han Says:

Why would Amanda try to protect a guy she has only known for a couple of days? My take on all this is that she and the boyfriend killed the girl and then tried to pin it on the club owner. If all three were in on the killing Amanad would have no reason to point the finger on the club owner. She’d known him longer than the boyfriend and he’d given her a good job too. She pointed the finger at him because he wasnt there at all or not around when the murder happened.

  18. Emerson Says:

I think you’re heading in the right direction Han. I have a feeling that Patrick is just a scapegoat. Could be wrong, but you’d think some type of evidence from him would have been found in the room and leaked to press. I’m guessing master mainpulator Amanda thinks she can look like the innocent girl who got caught in the middle.

It makes more sense that she set this up for the bf, trying to please him, and it got out of hand.

  19. Melissa Says:

Evidence is weird. Do people in Italy flush? There is evidence apparently of 4 people in the house. One is of a person who didnt flush his poo. In the earlier reports the police said that Amanda fell into her boyfriends arms saying there was “stool” in the toilet when she got there and then it was gone.

Pardon me, but is it an American thing to flush after going? At least flush when poo is involved even if you are a green freak.

This case is just too weird.

  20. annarocket Says:

    Melissa,I don’t drink.

And I’m not commenting on what I can remember after a whole day of smoking anything on the grounds it may incriminate me. Luckily,I took a lot of pictures when I lived overseas, especially my trips to Amsterdam.

I’m interested in how this turns out.Personally,I don’t think it looks good for her.

  21. annarocket Says:

    ——–
I don’t think it’s weird at all. I think it’s quite obvious that this Amanda girl is lying out her teeth to make it seem as a person had broken inn or WE.
I feel sad for this girl in a way. She has destroyed so many lifes.
I think your comment about being an American thing to flush is pathetic. Is it an American thing to lie all the time? After living here 20 years I am seriously starting to think so !!

  24. Melissa Says:

Actually I said that Mia – not annarocket. I dont know about the papers, but 2 accounts talk about unflushed stools. You dont find that strange? And both of the articles made it seem like that were a normal thing.

  25. eman Says:

Thanks Mia. Melissa, do you think US is the only civilized country on earth? You were offensive with italians. I think you should apologize or the blogger remove those comments.

  26. Melissa Says:

Go F*ck yourself. Now THAT’s offensive, (hoping anyway).

Because I find the non-flushing of poo strange should not be offensive to Italian’s. If there is a reason this is considered normal then I was asking for an explanation. Is the plumbing backasswards? Pardon the pun.

IOW eman, no I will not apologize for a question even if you found it offensive.

  27. Terri Says:

Melissa was not being offensive at all, IMO. As for the case, I don’t know what to think. It is obvious that a lot of details are being hidden.

  28. FoolsGold Says:

Under Italian law she could lawfully be questioned despite any desire she may have had for counsel although I now understand that she made no requests for counsel.

It seems she is rather experienced with drug use and so this ‘I don’t remember’ seems to be a foolishly lame excuse. I think it more likely that she was a knowing and wilful participant and perhaps even an instigator of the events.

Clearly her post-crime behavior was that of a conspirator, not mere audio-witness.

  29. Cokkonut Says:

Amanda is hot, she look like Jenna Bush isn’t?

  30. annarocket Says:

    She’s hot allright.I know nothing says hot like a suspect in a criminal investigation.Give me a break,jeez.

I’m going to assume English isn’t your primary language and not correct your grammar.

However nothing accounts for bad taste and being dumb.Apparently those traits are universal.

  31. Han Says:

As far as being ‘hot’… well at her age that isn’t hard to be. That’s when young women are showing more of their parent’s genes than their own eating/living choices. Let’s see what she looks like in 10 years.

  32. Laurel Murray Says:

No, no.. Melissa, I hear you. I’m an American studying in Ireland. The flushing thing? Not so much, here. It’s like, the toilets don’t have as much flush power, and it’s apparently just not that big of a deal.

  33. empireboy Says:

This is the first I read of Filomena. Why is so little said about her. Is she out of town? Her time is accounted for?
Patrick lives/works in town. Owning a bar/cafe I expect he meets plenty of girls. Doesn’t add up.

  34. Guenevere Says:

Amanda and Rudy Guede did it. Her boyfriend covered for her at first but then realized WTF? Diya and her boyfriend are innocent, Mark my words, it was Knox and Guede only. Too much pot leaves people confused, but not necessarily murderers.

  35. AXJ-ITALY Says:

The international civil rights organization Action4Justice (AFJ-AXJ) has requested Italian Judges to inform them immediately why this case has been seen behind “closed doors” and AXJ representatives were not permitted in the Court Room for the hearing. “What type of third world system of Justice is this” commented an Italian AXJ activist. http://www.action4justice.com

  36. Miapocca Says:

AXJ..shut up will you…this is none of your business..the murderer needs to be found and the girl is obviously lying..too bad its not some dictatorship she ended up in or else she would be chop liver by now

I fucking hate it when fucking grass hooters take on the causes of fucking arse murderers..get a job abd stop using someone murder to advance you stupid organization

I think Amanda and Rudi were involved in the murder

  37. Trey Says:

is it just me or does Rafaelle look a lot like Harry Potter? just a thought.

  38. Georgio Says:

Amanda was rather loose here in Italy and according to her (OK, I slept with her once here in Perugia), she started being promiscuous back in Seattle. From my experience, she was, is and always will be a walking nymphomaniac who simply loves her sex and fucking rough and without restraint.

That in the end will be the end of her.

  39. Cody M Says:

Europe’s fascination with Amanda Knox is nothing but classic Anti-Semitism. These days it manifests itsself as planted evidence and sensationalist news. You people should be ashamed of yourself.

  40. isabella saxon Says:

I don’t believe that Georgio even knows Amanda, much less slept with him. He’s what we in America call “a tool.”

Most Italian men are a whole lot nicer than him. Sounds like he sleeps around a lot.

  41. nn Says:

Is Amanda jewish? I highly doubt this is anti-semitism. You need to back up a statement like that. I think its a popular story bc there are attractive young people involved, along with sex and drugs. Amanda on paper, her background and appearance, make any reader what to read further to look for some sign or something in her past that would explain this. People want to know why someone, and potentially her, would do such an evil thing?

Look at the facts only, the DNA, Amanda’s ever changing story, the video surveillence which showed her entering her flat shortly before the murder, and take into some consideration what the italian police/judge etc., are putting out there. People watch too many movies. They have probably made some errors but they are NOT holding Amanda so they have a “fall guy” or bc she was promiscuous and now needs to be branded with a scarlett letter. They have met extensively with all suspects and have been investigating this for a month. It is very, VERY likely that Amanda is directly involved in this murder and to pretend that she is just being demonized for being an independent woman/thinker, as one commenter said, is RIDICULOUS.

  42. amy Says:

amanda, start telling the truth, the boys are covering their own arses, not yours. your mother must be so dissapointed. if i was her, i would give you the beating of your life. give the death penalty for all sicko’s INVOLVED!

  43. Mark Says:

Where is this anti-semitism thing coming from. According to reports, she is catholic. And she attended a private jesuit school growing up. Is someone confusing jesuit with jewish? Jesuit is catholic.

  44. Leah Says:

I think the girlfriend did it. I think she was jealous of meredith and tried to get the bar owner to help her out, and probably got her italian boyfriend involved too. She probably couldn’t finish it out in the end, ran away scared and her italian boyfriend probably finished the job. Then the guy with the stomach problems probably came out of the restroom at that time, to find him with a knife in his hand. That’s just me though

  45. luke Says:

“Europe’s fascination with Amanda Knox is nothing but classic Anti-Semitism.”

I have seen no mention of Amanda Knox being Jewish, nor is there likely to be as it is totally irrelevant. The fascination is with what is thankfully still very rare, and that is a woman, allegedly, being involved in a sex crime and in this case murder. It also comes from the fact that she seemed a relatively ordinary girl even if she was sexually promiscuous. Neither she or her boyfriend appear to have any criminal history or any record of violent behaviour. It also involves attractive looking people. It may be distasteful, but a whodunnit involving people who would not normally be considered suspects in such a case is fascinating unless you know the parties involved in which case it is obviously disturbing.

  46. Bruno benzi Says:

Amanda Knox has a problem. She is in prison. No one says she is
guilty. What happened the night when Meredith was killed and
how was she killed? No body knows.Amanda that very night
    was in the flat.

  47. Tazia Says:

“is it just me or does Rafaelle look a lot like Harry Potter? just a thought.”

He looks good for 20 years.

  48. Luis Says:

Amand Knox is a product of a privileged upbringing. She believed that butter would not met in her mouth but I suspect she is a girl who is used to getting what she wants and she does not care who she hurts. Well!!! She is infor it now.

  49. Bruno Benzi Says:

Luis is right.Amanda is in big,big troubles.I feel pity for her
    parents.

  50. confused Says:

Had Amanda and Meredith been enemies for years and Amanda was a violent person there might be a possible motive. But come on, they knew each other for 2 months and Amanda had been spending most of her time away from their cottage at her boyfriends house. Most college students who don’t get along with their roommates don’t murder them, they just change roommates…this is not about jealousy.

  51. confused Says:

Also, if it’s true that Amanda mentioned stool being in the bowl and then mysteriously being gone…how were the police able to get a stool sample of stool that was not there?

  52. scrapster Says:

“Amanda Knox is a product of a privileged upbringing”.

She was raised by her mother in a lower middle class Seattle home, don’t see how this was privleged.

  53. gg Says:

“She was raised by her mother in a lower middle class Seattle home, don’t see how this was privleged. ”

“lower middle class” and “Seattle” are nearly mutually exclusive – somewhat like San Francisco. The smallest of houses in the Seattle area are expensive to begin with. Mid-range sizes only go up from there.

  54. confused Says:

Meredith Kercher’s friends do not believe she was headed home to meet with Guede. Her friends have also said that she did not have a reputation of having casual sex. Girls spending a night together watching a movie would certainly talk about whether or not they had plans to “hook up” with someone later on that evening. Guede seems the more likely suspect of the three because of his DNA not only being found on, but IN Meredith, his troubled past that includes a drug arrest, his fleeing out of the country & his God awful story that he needed to make an urgent visit to the bathroom, but only after he grabbed his IPOD & headphones. I would think Amanda Knox’s DNA would be found there, she lived there & admitted to using the bathroom that very morning.
It’s all very odd. Perhaps they are all innocent and just afraid of telling the truth because of a “bigger” murderer who has threatened their lives and the lives of their famlies, someone like a drug dealer?

  55. Miapocca Says:

To date it seems all roads lead to Amanda fucking knox./she did it …and if she did not being in an intalian jail would have made her spill the beans by now..she is covering her arse and only her arse…

Lower middle class.hmm,. her life is a lot more than lower middle class..seems she had a lot going on for her and was ruined by her own actions.

I wonder is she as banging the step father too, after all her was closer in age to her than her mother..

  56. Miapocca Says:

I guess some may wish that there is a another big bad wolf..seems unbeleivable that a clean looking girl oculd be involved in this kind of thing, but so far there is no eveidence of some big bad Tony Soprano…little miss think had quite an intersting background and I can just see this happening…read some blog where people who worked and visited the coffee house she was at before leaving and there were no glowing reports, they all seem to think it might be posisble for her to ocmmitment murder but are not sure

So if people who know you cant defend you, I guess then you are in deep shit…I think she should be sen tto texas where she gets the death penalty..or rather the europeans should throuw american justice at her and sentence her to the chair….that will also give america a wake -up call on their death sentences handed down here..maybe she can use her newfound celebrity to get rid of the death sentence in america…

  57. Jennifer Says:

20/20 did a great story on this subject. There is no direct evidence to convict Amanda Knox. The small things the Italian police thought they had are bogus. Amanda is an innocent young girl caught up in a nasty triangle.

  58. yasmin Says:

i think she’s an innocent girl..why would she do such a horrible thing!!!
let her go she’s a sweet young innocent girl….

  60. Albina1 Says:

Amanda is SO guilty! Maybe her family is in some kind of denial and don’t want to look objectively what has happened to her after she went to Italy but they better start seeing the truth…She just couldn’t wait to go there and her sole reason to study so far from home was to have a wild sex life with all it’s attachments and nobody close to her will ever know. She could maintain her ” good girl ” image at home. Maybe she was a nice girl before but she was just waiting to come out. She was tired of hiding her true wild side any more. And came out she did! With a vengeance for all this time she had to study in her room and work….She was like this crazy animal in Italy , that’s why she only made it 6 weeks…the lion escaped from the cage and was caught shortly after. I have no doubt she will be convicted of something, I don’t know how much they can prove her involvement but it’s very clear she did it and probably very much enjoyed it too! She has this smirk on her face….I bet even after conviction her family will be saying: she is innocent, she is a good girl, etc… they are all blind because it hurts to see the truth, they don’t want to see the real Amanda because it hurts, she deceived them all. I hope she will never see freedom again, next 50 years should be nothing but a misery for her as she left nothing but misery for Meredith family. I hope she burns in hell.

I think it was the midget…it’s always the midget.

  62. Bruno Says:

If guilty,Amanda will get maybe no more than 25
years. In Italy prisons are places were persons
have the opportunity to prove they have learned
form their mistakes and have the opportunity to
work outside and go back in the evening. And maybe after 10 15 years to go home.I Italy we have the
Roman Law therefore a judge and not a jury.If
condemned a person can aplly for a second judgment
and than the Court of Cassation.A lady killed her
3 years boy.She had to wait the Court of Cassation
before being arrested and take to prison. How many
yeras?15 In Italy we were outraged. After 7 years
she will go out of prison.Terrible

  63. Harm Says:

As we in Germany have also Roman Law, I wonder about a specific question: Is there something like Juvenile Law in Italy (like in Germany) with a maximum sentence that is significantly lower than the obligatory life sentence in murder-cases? Up to the age of 21 felonies are punished in Germany with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison [which is a joke in cases of multiple homocide]. Is there something alike in the Italian judicial system? And if so, what is the maximum age & sentence? Thx for your feedback!
I suppose that in this case A.K. will be sentenced (if anyhow) to a limited amount of time, and after 1 or 2 years she will be extratited to the U.S., where she will serve at max 50% of the time (10 years?) she was sentenced to.

  64. Bruno Says:

In Italy we do not have a Juvenile Law.Actually a
16 years girl killed her mother and brother.
According to our law she is a minor therefore she
should not go to jail. However the crime was as such that she got 15 years prison.Amanda
if guilty she could get life sentence.

  65. J.M ROJAS Says:

Amanda Knox is an American student who stands trial for the murder of her former roommate Meredith Kercher, in Perugia Italy, where she is facing a Kafkaesque fate in a foreign court at the height of Anti American, anti Bush, anti Iraq sentiment. She has captivated the world and my attention with her virgin like beauty. She has been branded Fronte di angel’o (angel face) by the Italian media. Public snippets of her personal life have been used against her to create a public persona of a promiscuous Cold hearted American driven by passion and jealousy.
I wanted to create a visual representation of the demonization of Amanda Knox. & Recreate the slimy residue left behind the medias notorious circus. – ROJAS

  66. joeshmo Says:

Meredith Kercher is the Jew here, an international, british one at that. Amanda Knox is the Washington state neonazi slut, blindly jealous of Meredith’s apparent cultural upper hand, as evidenced by the music video, bar job, boys’ polls. Amanda recruited Rafaelle, Rudy and a 6″ knife to carry out a black rape on Meredith, the goal being ultimate humiliation. Malice turned to rage and someone, probably Knox, flicked the blade too hard in a ’shroomed delirium. Meredith chokes to death from the wound. Amanda Knox flees the scene laughing hysterically that the Jew bitch got what she deserved, black semen in her cunt and a throat slit wide open.

  67. Andrea Says:

i am praying for Amanda, God has put it on my heart to do so. i am a born again christian, i sdo not judge people but i love people. i am glad God has give me a heart for this dear one and to pray for her.

  68. smc Says:

Don’t do drugs. Don’t date people who drugs. Don’t invite your drug dealer into your home/apartment and then act surprised at what happens. I doubt Amanda Knox killed her roommate herself, but she’s hardly innocent.

  69. email Says:

Her email tells the story, its really good.

  70. banzay Says:

I’d like to know what Rudy has to say since he plead guilty early. If he did it himself, why is he not saying anything?

  71. Hannah montana Says:

They have no right to blame the Italian justice system or say that the Italians in this case of Amanda Knox are anti-American. Witch was one of the statements shown this morning that the Itanlians wearing their sashes with the Italian flag are anti-American. I am Italian American. Another comment was this would be affective not to have American visitiors visit the nice quant little Italian town. The town of Perugia and its people did not masacure the innocent British girl. It hurts me deeply, that an American brodcasting news channel would allow comments like that said on the air. Amanda Knox has this viloents in her and would have done this sooner or later, no matter where she is. She has no remorse for what she has done. With a BIG smile on her face. Instead of tears. I am upset that Hillary Clinton is looking into this case. She even wrote on her blog, about this murder. I hope she goes to the romian jail. 25 years is NOT long enough. She should be serving a life sentence. The italian jail will wipe that smile right off her face. I lived in Perusa and I never ever inconterd anybody there that was anti- American. It’s a wonderful beautiful town.

  72. blah, blah , blah Says:

From first appearances, her conviction seems problematic, but the Italian courts are capable of sorting it out. Had she been accused of the same crime in the US, she would have found herself in a much more dire situation. The same flimsy physical/circumstantial evidence convicts people in the US. There’s no anti-Americanism here. At least she has a chance to see the light of day again, whereas here she would have been sentenced to life or received the death penalty. Let’s evaluate our own grave injustices that have been increasingly perpetrated at an alarming rate against the most helpless of individuals–immigrants, petty criminals and the mentally ill–before so many of you throw around accusations at the Italians with such hubris. Everywhere I look I see venomous outcries from ‘upstanding’ Americans calling for someone to go to jail, be executed, deported, detained, tried, or just airing blanketed insults. (Most of the above comments fit these category, only in this case there is actually some merit.) Let’s all stop to ask ourselves how long it will be before over half of Americans will have served a stint in jail or prison. As it is, estimates put the proportion of American adults with criminal records (minor traffic violations are excluded) anywhere from 17-24%, 6.5% of which are felons.

The Italian courts often reverse the initial convictions on appeal, which is another grain of hope Amanda would have been deprived of had she been convicted here. May the truth win.
