CR Open Thread: Ellen’s Tears, Mickael Vick’s Fears

The weekend is here…so here’s an open thread. What do you make of Ellen Degeneres and her tearful plea to get Iggy back to her hairdresser’s family? Britney missing parenting classes? Michael Vick selling his house because he knows he won’t be livin’ so large? Whatever trips your trigger, ran on here.

  1. Melissa Says:

I felt sorry for Ellen. And yeah, I have cried that hard over a dog before. Everyone I know that has had a dog has cried when they lost them.

She feels badly because a dog was taken away from little kids and its her fault. Her show is always personal, I thought it was great that she brought attention to a stupid rule that the shelter had, and took the dog away from them.

  2. gam Says:

I agree, Melissa! I think Ellen is a very sensitive, compassionate person and just felt devastated for both the dog and the family over the whole situation. There is nothing to be ashamed of in being sensitive, if you ask me…MHO

  3. Kristina Says:

I too agree, Ellen is a good person. If the dog was in a good home with kids, why take Iggy away. Ellen spent alot of money on the dog, the shelter should pay her back or give Iggy back to the family that loves him.

Britney needs some serious help. I saw on tv, that she ran over a photographers foot, by accident of course. They need to back off of her. They endanger peoples lives as well as their own, just to get a picture. She needs to focus on getting her kids back, not shopping or getting in magazines.

As for Vick…. to bad so sad.
For me a crime against an innocent animal is just as bad as a crime against a child. I hope he’s kicking himself in the a** for what he’s done. And realizing it wasn’t worth it. But I doubt he’s sorry, just sorry he got caught.

  4. Rae Says:

A lot of animal shelters have that rule, though – I’m not sure it’s stupid, since they are just trying to protect the animals and make sure they end up in loving homes. No harm in that.

What THIS animal shelter did wrong was to remove the animal from a loving home. Total overreaction. Their argument was with Ellen breaking the rules of the contract, not with the family that adopted the pet – they should have reprimanded Ellen without removing the animal. Ellen was wrong in not reading the contract thoroughly, but the shelter acted out of proportion to her mistake.

Britney is just a train wreck that keeps happening. The whole saga is reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s descent into madness.

And Michael Vick – boo hoo hoo. He should take his punishment like a man and shut the hell up.

  5. Frankly Scarlett Says:

I love Ellen, she is a kind and generous person. This latest dog fiasco really makes me sad and angry. This animal shelter “bit off it’s nose to spite it’s face”. It’s ridiculous, their main aim is to find loving homes… this dog had a loving home….and they take it back and put it in a shelter again? I really wonder if it had been anyone else besides a “star”, if this would have happened. I know they have to have rules, but they also need to learn the words “flexibility” and “sensibility”.

Britney, puke, Britney, puke….. that woman better get her butt to rehab and STAY there. Otherwise, she will never be fit enough to care for those beautiful boys. With her, it’s all ME ME ME. Spoiled rotten kid, and now spoiled rotten adult, which is very unattractive and very irresponsible when children are involved. She’s heading for a major fall, and a major awakening. Long overdue.

    Michael Vick….. MAKES ME SICK.

And that’ all I have to say about THAT!!!!!

  6. Frankly Scarlett Says:

Sorry, wanted to mention one more thing. Here in Atlanta we are having a major problem with emergency pet clinics. It seems that if you take your pet there, and then you don’t have the $1,300 or whatever to pay….. they will put your pet DOWN or put it up for ADOPTION. They will not let you make payments, you have to have ALL the money right then. Many people just don’t have it. Are these vets in the compassion and treatment of animals business, or are they in the business of “how much money can I make this year”.

I recently had a small article published in the local paper about this matter. This summer we were on vacation up in Vermont, and our 7 year old Westie, Scarlett, was boarded here in Atlanta. We get a call that she has gone into kidney failure and needs to be taken to an emergency clinic. They took her, and the clinic wouldn’t let her in the door until they received $1,300 up front. We paid it, but in the the end we had to have her put down, had to have it done while we were 1200 miles away, and it was devastating. Shame on these people who are SUPPOSED to care for animals, when all they REALLY care about is their pocketbooks.
    IMHO.

  7. Einstein's Mom Says:

I agree about Ellen and the shelter situation. They should have left the dog where it was and simply reprimanded Ellen for breaking a rule that should not be so inflexible.

Brit seems to be her own worst enemy. I can’t help but feel some sympathy for her and her misguided ways. She still seems totally clueless. She should have realized by now that her celebrity status is how K-Fed’s attorney gets all of his ‘emergency’ meetings with the judge at the drop of a dime, meetings that I bet average people don’t get so quickly. As for the photographer, he should have watched where he put his feet.

  8. A. Says:

I agree with you about Britney Spears, EM. She’s clearly suffering from something, but it doesn’t seem like a substance abuse issue to me. I hope she finds a way out of her tailspin, before she kills herself. She looks like a prime candidate for suicide.
I can’t imagine the life of those two little boys with KFed. He’s such an obvious schmuck, and to think that the courts have determined him to be the better parent (which may be true) goes to show what a tragic situation it is.

  9. Kristina Says:

    Frankly Scarlett,

Sorry about your dog. I had a similar experience with my sister’s dog. She got hit by a car(hit and run)and I was the only one home. So I drive down the vet’s office, they take her in, but when I was leaving they said they needed some kind of down payment. Which I understood, people take their pets to the vet and don’t pay their bill. So I gave the office $100 and left. A month later the dog died.

Sorry, maybe not so similar situations.

Hopefully they will change there rules in Atlanta. It seems illeagal to me, but it’s probably not.

  10. Rae Says:

Yeah, but, A, you never know. I agree, K-Fed appears to be a total schmuck-but maybe having the care of those two boys is helping him turn his life around. It’s worked for other people, in much tougher situations, why not him as well?

  11. A. Says:

Maybe Rae. People can change. I’m a believer in that. But he already had two other kids and that didn’t seem to ground him, or spawn any great decisions.

  12. Frankly Scarlett Says:

Kristina, thank you for your kind words. She was a beautiful dog and our best friend. I still can’t stop crying. MANY people wrote to the paper about this situation. Especially about that poor family whose dog they were going to put down or up for adoption. Hopefully, they will change the laws. I understand that Vets need to be paid, but there has to be some sort of flexibility.

The weirdest thing about that day was that before I knew anything, I found this BEAUTIFUL Westie stuffed animal which I promptly bought. And my hubby, found, of ALL things, a pair of Westie socks for me, which he promptly bought. 2 hours later we heard the news. We expected to have her for many more years.

I’m sorry about your sister’s dog. But hopefully, they are both off running in the fields somewhere having a good bark.
    :)

  13. Rae Says:

True, A. But, on the other hand, his other two kids have mothers who care for them…his children with Spears are now solely his responsibility. Hopefully, he’ll grow from it.

Or maybe not. No figuring out those Hollywood types. :-)

  14. Jeanne From NC Says:

This Ellen situation was way blown out of proportion. I watched tmz’s LONG interview with the girl and her explaination of the woman’s actions etc. It is a bit strange that they never changed the micro chip info. They should have left Iggy with the girls as it was obvious when she came in things were good and Iggy was getting along with the other dog of the family etc. The fact they immediately readopted the dog out is irresponsible and horrible! I can’t imagine if someone knew that dog was the one in the middle of a controversy that they would have taken it.

Britney- I think part of what is going on is that she’s never really been responsible for anything since her career started so early so she is learning as she is going. I don’t think she is on anything etc. I do think they should make him do the random tests as well. There have been weekends that they kids were “with him” and he was in vegas partying etc.

Vick- apparently a touchy subject here in Atlanta. he got what he deserved and I hope he loses money on a house built by knocking several other houses down to make room for it like all other sports figures here.

JMK- I think I’ll head to JMK’s favorite mall tomorrow and maybe I’ll catch a glimpse of him!

  15. Einstein's Mom Says:

I remember when Brit was dating Kev…she was so ‘in love’ with his kids. After they got married, I never saw a photo of her with them again. In fact, I haven’t seen a photo of him with them or even read anything about him having a relationship with them. So who knows…my guess is that the kids are surrounded by nannies when they’re at his house. But as Rae said, people can change. Some guys suddenly become adults over night when they have a child, while others run as fast as their legs will carry them. I do commend Kev for at least fighting for the kids.

  16. A. Says:

EM–I’m not so sure I see him fighting for the kids as much as for the income that comes with the kids.

I hate to judge…I could be wrong of course. I’m just not ready to call him noble.

  17. Jeanne From NC Says:

Shar maintains he is a good father to her kids but I don’t know. You are right in that we haven’t seen those kids in quite some time since the wedding in fact I think. I think he is just after the money that comes with it.

Anna Nicole Smith- anyone else find it interesting that Howard Stern just HAPPENED to be at the doctors home next to ANS’s house where Larry was living with Dannilynn when the doctors house was raided? Howard has said he waived any fees for making sure Dannilynn gets her mom’s things and will not receive any of her inheritance except that which he was working with Anna on before she had Dannilynn etc. His firm would get 30%.

  18. dott31 Says:

I live in the Bay Area and distinctly remember when Ellen was up here for some sort of entertainment and adopted a dog from the Oakland SPCA. There was great media attention to the happy mom and adoptee, whom she’d named “Oakland.” Later she revealed she’d changed his name. Where is he now? Anybody know ? She seems to be a cat person now.

  19. Frankly Scarlett Says:

I think there are a LOT of suspicions about the whole Anna Nicole situation. And none of it sounds very good.

Too many coincidences, too much money exchanging hands, the whole thing STINKS of wrong-doing.

The thought that Daniel dies, Anna dies, Howard and Larry suddenly become best buds…… I wouldn’t be ONE bit surprised it that baby ends up dead before she is of age to inherit anything.

Snakes in the grass, the whole lot of them.

  20. JrZyChris Says:

I scanned through the postings, so if this has been answered, forgive me. I understand the shelter has a policy, if the original adoption family can not keep the pet, it must be returned to the shelter. Ellen gave the dog to the family and the shelter took it back.

Who benefits from this? I understand if they took the dog back until they completed normal adoption procedure, is there any attempt to go about doing this the right way and reuniting the family with the dog or does it now sit in the shelter where it’s up for adoption to anyone EXCEPT for this family? This is what I don’t understand.

  21. Einstein's Mom Says:

I haven’t followed the Ellen situation closely enough to know the answer to that question, Chris.

One thing’s for sure, though: we have quite a few People (or other tabloid magazine) readers here. We sure are current on our Britney gossip! Lol!

  22. Jeanne From NC Says:

no they didn’t try and go through the right process with that family they adopted Iggy out to a completely different family.

Ellen donated a bunch of money to them etc. and they turn around and do this? whatever. Hey I thought of a name for Ellen and Porcia. Degenerossi!

  23. JrZyChris Says:

I didn’t know the dog was adopted out to yet another family. That was just downright cruel. Thanks for the info.

EM, I’ve heard enough about Britney to last me for the rest of my life and beyond! (who hasn’t?) All I can say is I hope her Malibu home isn’t in imminent danger of becoming toast. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

  24. Rae Says:

To be fair, just because the press doesn’t report on Federline’s relationship with his older kids doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It just means it ain’t newsworthy.

Look, I’m no fan of Federline or anyone like him-no patience with money motivated celebrity seekers-but I don’t see him driving around with the baby on his lap, or nearly dropping one of the kids, or taking them to restaurants at 10:00 at night. (He did party in Vegas, but that was when Spears had the kids.) He appears to have buckled down somewhat and, even if he does employ nannies, at least he’s not obviously putting his kids in harm’s way. If he were out every night, abusing substances, it would be all over the papers – and it isn’t.

And I don’t necessarily agree that he is keeping the kids for more money. The money issues between Spears and Federline were already decided in the divorce-the most he can get now, legally, is an increase in child support. He doesn’t appear to be asking for anything other than that or offering to relinquish custody for a big chunk of $$.

  25. Deb Says:

The Ellen dog situation – cruel. I read that the family did fill out an application, and that the agency used it simply as a means of obtaining their address so they could come and get the dog.

  26. Einstein's Mom Says:

Rae, if I’d taken my kids out at that age to a sit down restaurant at 10:00 at night, they’d have been screaming from exhaustion. I don’t blame K-Fed for griping that the kids’ routines are totally thrown off after they’ve been with their mother.

  27. A. Says:

Rae: I just don’t get a fatherly vibe from him AT ALL. But I don’t get a motherly one from Britney either.
Bottom line–I feel sorry for those little boys.

p.s. Additional child support that would come with full custody will be a significant jump in income for K.
It’s sad. As sorry as I feel for myself at times, I’m just glad I wasn’t born with a dollar sign stamped on my forehead.

  28. Jackie Says:

“To be fair, just because the press doesn’t report on Federline’s relationship with his older kids doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It just means it ain’t newsworthy.”

And it should not be considered news-worthy. Nothing good can possibly come of letting any child grow up with the spot-light trained on them. Quite apart from the fact that it makes them easier targets for kid-napping it gives them a completely skewed idea of how the world fits together and what their place is in it. IMO, the most responsibly celebrities are the ones who make an effort to keep their children out of the media.

  29. Rae Says:

A, I agree. It is sad. Babies deserve better. Poor little mites are the ones who will pay the most in the long run.

I don’t know about that fatherly vibe-I’ve never personally observed how K-Fed interacts with his kids, so can’t really say. At least, he seems to have a smidgen more sense than God gave his noodle of an ex-wife.

I mean, driving around with a baby unrestrained on her lap? How STUPID.

  30. JrZyChris Says:

I hope this doesn’t come out sounding just plain old wrong.

I don’t think that fathers love their children any less than mothers do. In most cases though, there is a ‘motherly instinct’ that just makes women sort of take over as far as the babies are concerned.

Everyone hated KFed and thought as soon as she left him, things would be so much better for her kids and her career. As we know, that seemed to trigger her off into her own world.

It may not have concerned children, but I think we’ve all surprised ourselves by what we could do, being put in a situation where we had no choice but to do the right thing. I think that’s where Kevin Federline was able to step up and see that someone had to do something for those kids, and it SHOULD be him before anyone else.

While we will never know the real story, we haven’t heard of any irresponsible activities of recent :-) Okay, I’m guilty of britposting.

  31. Einstein's Mom Says:

Just in case anyone was holding their breath, Brit apparently regained some of her temporary custody rights again. My guess is that they’re going to have to dedicate one judge to this case until the youngest is 18.

Gosh, if Brit goes through serious rehab, which celebrity will take her place in the gossip tabs? That darn Lindsay seems to have taken rehab serious this time and Paris is too old hat to talk about.

  32. Blaundy Says:

Iggy should have never been messed with, the pooch was in a good place! These idiots don’t seem to know when to leave well-enough-alone!

Brit is a child with children, she needs to grow up!!! Better late than never!

Nothing to say about the scum Vick.

  33. Ryan Says:

    Hey Guys!
Man where do I begin. Hmmm. HERE! My new favorite place to vent!

    1. Ellen paid 600.00 to spay this pup and give it it’s shots. Does this mean that the mean old hag that took Iggy away from a little girl has to pay Ellen back? If you follow the contract they both are in default. Ellen for giving it away and the Oakland shelter for taking her money, the dog and not paying her back! The household looked like a good place for Iggy to grow up in. There was no malice here. Cruella who took Iggy back is just being mean and trying to expell some power over Ellen. Quite frankly it just makes her look small. And come on she made a little girl cry! Not to mention ELLEN!

    2. Ms. Spears. GROW THE HELL UP.
If I had no money and two kids to feed and I had no alternative I would prostitute myself to put food in their mouths! She’s worth 100 million and has had ample opportunity to complete some very easy and basic commitments to the court and she has pretty much spit in the face of the judge, his court, her fans and all her supporters!. Those kids don’t belong with either of those people. Federline is nothing but an opportunistic Grifter using those kids as leverage to get a bigger pay out! While Spears is even paying to support his other children with his unmarried former lover! Put those kids with a family that will raise them with the love and care they need! Biology does not a parent make! Both of them are just sperm and couple of eggs!

    3. Mickael Vick. Stick the piece of trash AKA nothing better than a skanky street THUG in a pit with a hundred or so PETA members. That would be justice! Either that or just neuter the JERK! Either one would work for me!
    Signed Ryan,Big Animal Lover!

    4. Larry Birkhead & Howard K Stern.
Something smells so bad here I don’t know any of the players and I can smell the stench of what’s going on here. Blood relatives seem to be dying around these two as well. If I were Virgie Arthur I would be very afraid! Even Dannilynn should be. God help her if Birkhead gets that money. Because he would be the one to inherit if something did happen to that little girl! Do I believe he had a gay relationship with that Kentucky model! Hell YES! Notice how Birkhead hasn’t filed the supposed lawsuit he said he was going to against the model and the tabloid that published the story or the author of that new book exposing Birkhead and Sterns supposed afair? I ask you people, don’t you smell the stench?! Even Donald Trump said Howard K. Stern was a bad guy.
I think your both liars, Howard and Larry! And, I can say that. It’s an opinion and your both public figures now! So don’t even think about suing me! Karma’s a bitch boy’s you better watch out. Both of you! Cause it’s coming around!

    5. Thank you Mr. Olson and Mr. Phelps. Your site rocks!

  34. Blaundy Says:

Wow Ryan, you summed it up nicely.

Very sorry for your loss Frankly Scarlett, and very sorry for not having read all the way from the top yesterday.

We had a similar time when our cat had her leg crushed in an earthquake. We didn’t have the 1000 down, so she was put to sleep. They did say she would never be the same though and there was no guarantees. Being a very wild kitty, we chose sleep. If I had the money at the time? I think I would have given the surgery a try. Payments would have been nice!!! Broke my daughters heart :(
